Friday’s strong wind warning forced all boats to be restricted to a very small area inside the bay. A couple of diehards took a drive to different parts of the coast to try their luck off beaches and rocks. When you think that there are not many parts of the Mid west coast that are out of the wind it was not easy going for anyone. The non powered class with gritted teeth braved the conditions in the restricted zones and both walked away with a champion and longest pelagic. Junior shore based was the most supported group, competition well supported.
Some shore fishers even went fishing in amongst the kite surfers at Corro's, only to return with reports they could have started a seaweed collection business with the pile that was pulled up on the beach. Rock fishing was restricted to any north facing ledge, the $500 fish wrenched from the rocks at the esplanade look out. By Andrew Cornish.
